“Simplify” it by performing all of the operations to combine the terms. Then collect all of the constants on one side to calculate the variable/unknown on the other side.

# (3/11)*x − 2 = 5*x − (1/2)#

# (3/11)*x – 5*x = − (½) + 2# ; # (3/11)*x – (55/11)*x = (3/2)#

#-(52/11)*x = (3/2) ; x = -(11/52)*(3/2) ; x = -(33/104)#

CHECK:
#(3/11)*(-(33/104)) − 2# = #5*(-(33/104) − (1/2)#

# (-99/1144) – 2 = (-165/104) – (1/2)#

# (-99/1144) – (2288/1144) = (-165/104) – (52/104)#

# -(2387/1144) = -(217/104)# ; # -( 217/104) = -(217/104)# CORRECT!
