How do you solve 3x2+14x=5 by completing the square?

Dividing through by 3, we get:

x2+(143)x=53

Now try squaring x+73

(x+73)2=(x+73)(x+73)

=x2+(143)x+499

=53+499

=159+499

=649

=8232

Hence x+73=±83

Subtracting 7/3 from both sides, we get

x=±8373

So x=13 or x=153=5.
