How do you solve the equation #2x + y = 1#?

In general, it is not meaningful to ask to "solve" a single equation like this. You could ask to solve this equation for the value of #y# given some specified value of #x#; or you could ask to re-express it in the form #y= ...." or #x=...#

You could write the "solution" as an infinite set:
#{ (x,1-2x) AAxepsilon RR}#
but I doubt that's what you were hoping for.
