Plot the points, #(-2, 0) and (0,-7)#

The intercepts on the axes are two useful points.

All points on the x-axis have the y value = 0
All points on the y-axis have the x value = 0

To find the x-intercept. make y=0.
To find the y-intercept, make x =0
