I HATE this method, but here goes..

The term in the middle has to be split into two terms.
TO find them, first multiply $6 xx 6 = 36$

Find which pair of factors has a difference of+ 5?

$+9-4 =5$

So this tell us how to write $5y$

$6y^2 +9y -4y -6$

= $3y(2y +3) + 2(-2y -3)$

= $3y(2y +3) - 2(2y+3)$

= $(2y+3)(3y-2)$

How do you factor 6y^2 +5y - 66y^2 +5y - 6 by grouping?
