$-8/3 < x < 3$

Inequalities act just as equations do, for the most part. I'll show you what I mean:

$-6 < 3x +2 < 11$
Is the same as
$-8 < 3x < 9$

See what I did? I just subtracted 2 from both sides. We can then do the same with dividing by 3 to obtain:

$-8/3 < x < 3$
