Explanation:

Water, along with carbon dioxide, is involved in photosynthesis. Plants use this process to make foodstuff. It is the only mechanism we know of that can take carbon from the atmosphere and turn into a usable substance and eventually return it to the soil.

Without plants our atmosphere would just be a reservoir of #CO_2# and life, as we know it, would not exist.

The water used in photosynthesis comes from precipitation and/or ground water sources.
