What is the graph of the function #y=3x-2#?

This is a linear equation, the graph of a line.

This function is in slope intercept form, #y=mx+b#.

#m# is the slope
#b# is the #y#-intercept

In this example the slope is #=(rise)/(run)=3=3/1# and the #y#-intercept is #-2#.

If you are graphing by hand you would start by placing a point on the y-axis at position #(0,-2)#.

From point #(0,-2)# you would rise ,go up, #3# units then to the right #1# unit.

Or

From point #(0,-2)# you would go down #3# units and then to the left #1# unit.

Notice the green box that is placed on the starting point #(0,-2)#, the #y#-intercept .
