Hydrolysis is the breaking down of a compound due to a reaction with water - from the greek hydro water lysis loosening
Explanation:
Hydrolysis reaction should be pH dependent on some level.
This is because at extreme pH levels, the water would react with the acidic / alkaline solution or the compound itself would be broken down by the acidic / alkaline environment.
However as hydrolysis is seen a lot within organisms, pH is usually not relevant as it is maintained at a near constant level.
