There are different types of coefficients, it is not clear which you mean?

We could ask -
"What is the numerical coefficient in $\frac{1}{3} b ? \to \frac{1}{3}$ $1/3b ?" "rarr 1/3$

What is the coefficient of $b$ $b$ ?
In this case there is only one other factor in the $b$ $b$ term $\to \frac{1}{3}$ $rarr 1/3$
The coefficient of $\frac{1}{3} \to (b + 1)$ $1/3 rarr (b+1)$

Here is another example to illustrate coefficients.

In $3 x^{2} y \times \times \times \times (3 \times x \times x \times y)$ $3x^2ycolor(white)(xxxxxxxx) ( 3 xx x xx x xx y)$

$3$ $3$ is the numerical coefficient - the number part.

$3 x^{2} y$ $3x^2y$ is the literal coefficient - the letter (variable) part#

$3 x y$ $3xy$ is the coefficient of $x$ $x$

$3 y$ $3y$ is the coefficient of $x^{2}$ $x^2$

$3 x$ $3x$ is the coefficient of $x y$ $xy$

$3 x^{2}$ $3x^2$ is the coefficient of y#
