Explanation:
The solubility of organic molecules in water would be enhanced if it contained an hydroxyl group; i.e. if it were an alcohol. Methanol and ethanol are infinitely miscible with water; propanol has some solubility.
On the other hand, while ethanol is soluble in hexanes, methanol is insoluble in hexanes. The water like methanol molecule has too strong a hydrogen bonding interaction to allow hexanes solubility.
