A monsoon is a reversal of winds. Monsoons blow from warm to cold areas.
The land and the water warm and cool at different rates. When the land warms faster than the sea, an area of low pressure develops over the land. Meanwhile, there is an area of high pressure above the oceans. This difference in pressure results in air moving from the ocean to the land. The reverse is true in the winter when the land is cooler than the water.
