$x=(y-2)$

Given that,

$3x-y=6$

Replacing $x=(y-2)$

$3(y-2)-y=6$

Opening the brackets:

$3y-6-y=6$

$3y-y=6+6$

$2y=12$

$y=12/2$

$x=(y-2)$

$x=6-2$

$color(red)(x=4$

$therefore$ $color(magenta)(x=4 and y=6$
