$x=-3 and y=-7$

Since $y=x-4$ in the first equation, replace the $y$ in the second equation with the value $x-4$ .

$thereforex-4=3x+2$

$therefore 2x=-6 =>x=-3$ .

Then substituting back into equation 1 we get that $y=-3-4=-7$
