Isolate one variable in one equation and then substitute it in the other one.

$x = 6 - y$ $x=6-y$

Now, substitute the value found, in the first equation, for $x$ $x$ , in the second equation:

$6 - y = y + 2$ $6-y=y+2$
$4 = 2 y$ $4=2y$
$y = 2$ $y=2$

If $y = 2$ $y=2$ and $x = 6 - y$ $x=6-y$ , then $x = 4$ $x=4$
