From [1][1] subtracting x x from both sides, y=16-xy=16x and substituting this value for yy into [2][2] we obtain.......

2x+3[16-x]=122x+3[16x]=12, and so after expanding the bracket we get
2x+48-3x=122x+483x=12, after arranging and collecting like terms,

x=36x=36............[3][3] Substitute this value of xx into ..[1][1]

36+y=1636+y=16 and so y=-20y=20. You can check these answers by
