$x=2/15, y=-29/30$

If you add the two equations together this will remove the $y$ variable.

$-7x-2y=1$
$-8x+2y=-3$

After adding them

$-15x=-2$

$x=2/15$

Substitute this value for x into equation one

$-7xx2/15-2y=1$

$(-14)/15-2y=1$

Add $2/15$ to both sides

$-2y=1 14/15$

$y=-29/30$
