Given equations

$3x-4y=-23\ ......(1)$

$5x+y=-7\ .........(2)$

Multiplying (2) by $4$ & adding to (1), we get

$3x-4y+4(5x+y)=-23+4(-7)$

$23x=-51$

$x=-51/23$

setting the value of $x$ in (1), we get

$3(-51/23)-4y=-23$

$4y=23-153/23$

$y=\frac{376}{23\cdot 4}$

$y=94/23$

Hence the solution is $x=-51/23, \ \ \ y=94/23$
