In an equation which has only ONE fraction on each side, you may cross-multiply

#6/(b+9) = 4/(b+5)#

#6(b+5) = 4(b+9)#

#6b +30 = 4b +36#

#6b-4b = 36-30#

#2b = 6#

#b = 3#
