When a square is equal to a number, there are two answers:

$3x-1=sqrt12or3x-1=-sqrt12$
because both $sqrt12and-sqrt12$ give $12$ when squared.

Since $sqrt12=2sqrt3->$

$3x=1+-2sqrt3->x_(1,2)=(1+-2sqrt3)/3=1/3+-2/3sqrt3$
