You an isolate one variable in one equation and then substitute its value in the other equation, as follows:

Let's isolate yy in the first one.

y=2x+1y=2x+1

Now, substituting in the second:

3x+2(2x+1)=-53x+2(2x+1)=5

3x+4x+2=-53x+4x+2=5
7x=-77x=7
x=-1x=1

If x=-1x=1 and y=2x+1y=2x+1, then y=2(-1)+1=-1y=2(1)+1=1.

Then, x=y=-1x=y=1
