How do you find the equation of the line perpendicular to x=1 and passing through (-4, -5)?

y= -5

x=1 is a line perpendicular to x- axis, hence a line perpendicular to it would be a line parallel to y axis. The line parallel to y axis and passing through (-4,-5) would be y= -5

This is a situation easier than you think!
x=1 is a vertical line passing through 1 on the x axis, so the perpendicular to this is na horizontal one passing throug -5 on the y axis!!!!
So the equation of your line is y=-5
