This is basically Pythagoras' therom just on a graph. As the shortest distance between these points will be straight and you can make a right-angled triangle from these co-ordinates

So you fin the difference in the x co-ordinates (3--4=7) and the difference in the y co-ordinates (1--1=2)

These are a and b in the equation #a^2+b^2=c^2#

So #7^2+2^2=53#
