Multiply the numerator and denominator by the conjugate of the denominator to clear the radical from the denominator, then simplify.

#(sqrt(3)-1)/(sqrt(3)+1)*(sqrt(3)-1)/(sqrt(3)-1)#

#= (3-2sqrt(3)+1)/(3-1)#

#=2-sqrt(3)#
