Solve by elimination and substitution:

$-8x+y=2,8x+3y=-9$

Eliminate $8x$ from the second equation by $-8x$ in the first equation:

Add both the equations:

$rarr(-8x+y=2)+(8x+3y=-9)$

$rarr4y=-7$

$rarry=-7/4$

Substitute the value of $y$ to the first equation:

$rarr-8x+(-7/4)=2$

$rarr-8x-7/4=2$

$rarr(-32x-7)/4=2$

$rarr-32x-7=4*2$

$rarr-32x-7=8$

$rarr-32x=8+7$

$rarr-32x=15$

$rarrx=-15/32$ :)
