Cycloalkanes have 2 less hydrogens than the corresponding alkane.

Explanation:

A linear alkane has a formula of C_nH_(2n+2). When the alkane is a ring, 2 LESS hydrogens are necessary because of the C-C ring junction. This so-called degree of unsaturation corresponds to a RING or a double bond. When you consider a formula, the degree of unsaturation should be one of the first parameters noted.

By way of example, compare hexane, C_6H_14, to cyclohexane, C_6H_12. The ring junction reduces the hydrogen count.
