We "detect" or "sense" many forms of energy. We call it "seeing" from our cultural and language background.

Explanation:

We do not actually "see" quasars with our own eyes (visible light) although they are extremely bright. We detect their presence (and distinguish them from other types of bodies) by their energy emissions with radio-telescopes and more powerful visible telescopes like the Hubble.
