#11(x-6)#

It is an important skill to be able to write an expression written in English as a maths expression. This is what is asked in this question.

A product is the answer to a multiplication. The word 'and' tells us what we are multiplying together.

Sum is the answer to addition (you can also add negative numbers)
The sum of # x and -6# is:
#(x + (-6)) = (x - 6)#.

So, we are multiplying #11# by #(x-6)#

This is written as #11(x-6)#

If we try to follow BODMAS to simplify we hit a problem because we cannot simplify #(x-6)# in the bracket.

But we can apply the distributive law and get #11x -66#
