Given
"The density of ice "=0.92gcm^-3

"The density of water "=1gcm^-3

If we have 92g ice ,it will have volume 92/0.92cm^3=100cm^3
On melting this 92g ice we will get 92g water having volume 92/1=92cm^3.
So 100cm^3 ice contracts to 92cm^3 water on melting. Again application of pressure always tries to contract the volume.

So in respect of contraction in volume the application of mechanical energy (Pressure) and and application of heat energy are unidirectional (i.e.one helps another).Hence application of pressure helps melting as less heat energy is needed for melting under application of pressure (the mechanical energy).
