Explanation:

Dioxygen gas will react predictably with dihydrogen gas; O_2 should not easily react with H_2O.

I suppose formation of hydrogen peroxide could be envisaged, i.e.:

H_2O(l) + 1/2O_2(g) rarr HO-OH(aq)
