Why are acid-base reactions performed?

For neutralization

Explanation:

The general formula is acid + base rarr salt and water

Example: HCl + NaOH rarr NaCl + H_2OH2O

HCl is hydrochloric acid

NaOH is sodium hydroxide which is a base

They both react to form NaCl which is sodium chloride, a salt and H_2OH2O , which is water.

Now the solution is neutralized, not acidic neither basic
