Why was Plymouth Colony located at Massachusetts?

Explanation:
The Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth in 1620. They carried with them a charter for the Plymouth Colony. This charter, signed by the king, set out the borders of the colony.
The Massachusetts Bay Colony, unsettled at that time, had as its southern border the Neponset River. English cartographers had poor maps available to them and it was thought the Neponset was further south than it is. And so where the Mass Bay Colony ended the Plymouth Colony began.
In 1691 the Plymouth Colony joined the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
