The "Rough Riders" were a cavalry troop headed up by Theodore Roosevelt.
Explanation:
When the Spanish-American War broke out in 1898, Teddy Roosevelt gather a group of volunteer men who would form a cavalry troop to engage the Spanish in Cuba. Their fame came when they won the Battle of San Juan Hill in Cuba. Curiously, the effort was done as regular infantry and not cavalry.
