REMEMBER IT THIS WAY BODMAS(Brackets off,division,multiplication,addition and subtraction)

The distributive law is used in situations like this

a(b-c)=ab-aca(bc)=abac

(This is the distributive law of multiplication over subtraction)

a(b+c)=ab+aca(b+c)=ab+ac

(This is the distributive law of multiplication over addition).

let me cite some eg.

x^2(2y^3 - 98) =x^2 2y^3 - 98x^2x2(2y398)=x22y398x2

3x^2(2y^3 +1) =6x^2 2y^3 +3x^23x2(2y3+1)=6x22y3+3x2

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU
