The theoretical assumptions on which an F-test is based are:
- The population for each sample must be normally distributed with identical mean and variance.
- All sample observations must be randomly selected and independent.
- The ratio of
sigma1^2 tosigma2^2 should be equal to or greater than 1. (wheresigma1^2 >sigma2^2 ) - Since the F-distribution is always formed by a ratio of squared values, it can never be negative.
- All F-distributions are uni-modal and are skewed to the right.
