$x^4 + 6x^2 +9$

To write in standard form expand the brackets and collect like terms.

$(x^2 + 3 )^2 = (x^2 + 3 )(x^2 + 3 ) = x^2(x^2 + 3 ) + 3(x^2 + 3 )$

multiply out brackets : $x^4 + 3x^2 +3x^2 + 9 = x^4 + 6x^2 + 9$
