What do we mean by "solidification"...do we mean "fusion", i.e. the transition solid to liquid, traditionally called "melting"? In many instances the SOLID phase is (and should be) MORE dense than the liquid phase. Mind you, this prediction fails completely for the water molecule, with the result that ice-cubes, and ice-bergs float...
