The peptide bond is the bond between the carbon atom and the nitrogen atom. This bond is important for life because when linking together the amino acids we can create proteins that can have a large variety of functions.

As you can see in the picture, the N-terminus in the product can again react with some other C-terminus and form a new peptide bond.
