You have confused stomach acidity with heart burn. The stomach has a high acid environment. The pH is about 2, enough to burn a hole in a rug.

However, the tight valve at the top of the stomach isn't working correctly. This allows the acid contents to move up into the esophagus. The esophagus has no protection against that acid and it will be burned.

Heart burn is really a term used by people because it fells like the pain is coming from the region of the heart. The clinical term is acid reflux disease.

This is a burning feeling which rises from the upper abdomen or lower chest up towards the neck. Also, you may feel pain in the upper abdomen and chest, feel sick, have an acid taste in the mouth, bloating, belching, indigestion (dyspepsia), and a burning pain when you swallow hot drinks.

These symptoms tend to come and go, and tend to be worse after a meal.
