Well, Newton's 2nd law of motion says #F=ma#..........

Explanation:

If inappropriate units are used, i.e. #"pounds, shillings, and pence"#, we have to modify the given equation, Newton's famous 2nd law, to give #F=kma#, where #k# is some unspecified constant of proportionality.

Actually, Newton originally said #"the rate of change of momentum"# #"with respect to time is proportional to the force applied, and in"# #"the same direction......"# Thus he knew he had to introduce a constant of proportionality.

I have no doubt that Newton would have embraced the metric system. Mind you, I had no doubt that England would have voted to have stayed in the EU, so what do I know? In the past few weeks, I have had several discussions with the now triumphant Brexiteers, and have insisted that they should now readopt farthings, and shillings, and guineas, and go back to pounds, and ounces, in favour of the insidious French-inspired decimal system of 100 pence to the pound. I really should not joke because it might happen.
