An implied metaphor is one in which the comparison is made without mentioning one of the objects of comparison.
Explanation:
In a metaphor, two things are compared. For example:
That basketball player is a giraffe. (referring to the height).
In an implied metaphor, one of the objects of comparison is implied without being mentioned. For example:
The drill sergeant bellowed at the recruits. (implying 'bull-like')
After the speech, there was a buzz among the audience. (implying 'bee-like').
