A semilunar valve has three crescentic cusps which allow unidirectional blood flow. The semilunar valves guard opening of large blood vessels arising from heart.

There is right pulmonary valve and left aortic valve-- both semilunar type.
- Right one allows deoxygenated blood to flow out of right ventricle into pulmonary artery.
- Left one allows oxygenated blood to flow out of left ventricle into aorta.
