What is a Lewis structure?

1 Answer

A Lewis structure is a format that allows one to represent atoms, their electrons, and the bonds which form molecules.

For example you can represent an atom and its valence electrons:
Humaam H. 2014Humaam H. 2014

And you can also show the bonds between atoms in a molecule:
Humaam H. 2014Humaam H. 2014

Here is a video which discusses how to draw Lewis structures for atoms showing their number of valence electrons.
