What does tetany mean; with regard to the musculoskeletal system?

Tetany is the condition of prolonged muscle contraction where muscle remains in the contracted state.
Before the muscle relaxes , another new impulse arise and stimulate it to contract , hence muscle do not get time for relaxation.
