The strong possibility that Germany would produce an atomic bomb using the # e = mc^2# equation of Einstein.

Explanation:

The letter urged the United States to develop an atomic bomb before the Germans could. The letter expressed the fear that Germany using its advanced science would use that knowledge to develop a devastating weapon of war.

As it turned out British commandos destroyed the heavy water Germany would have used to produce a Hydrogen bomb. Germany never developed a nuclear bomb. American did not finish its development of a nuclear weapon until Germany had surrendered. The race to be the first to develop the nuclear bomb between Germany and America turned out to be unnecessary.

Ironically the atomic bomb developed by the United States was used to end the war against Japan not Germany.
