What are the roles of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA)?

DNA is much more stable than RNA, mainly because of its chemical makeup. DNA also has a built in "safety" to make sure that the data stored on it remains the way it was meant to be. The double strand structure makes sure that mutations in one strand doesn't lead to detrimental effects (within the cell itself, that is. After division problems may occur).

RNA is more cost efficient to make, as it has only 1 strand. RNA is used in a lot of different ways in the cell, ranging from rRNA in the ribosomes to tRNA for transportation of amino acids to the ribosome.
