Glaxies are classified based on their shapes

Galaxies are classified into three types

Elliptical Galaxies:

These are spherical or oval shaped galaxies.They are almost ball shaped.They only have a few million stars and contain most of gas.

Spiral Galaxies:

These are spiral shaped galaxies.They have a bulge at the centre.Elongated arms stretch from the centre.Our own galaxy,Milky Way is a Spiral galaxy.

Irregular Galaxies:

They are almost irregular in shape than other galaxies.They have a lot of star dust.They contain many stars and they are bright.
