You might have to refine your question...the sum of ALL pressures is equal to the ambient pressure. When we boil a kettle of water, the vapour pressure of the boiling water is EQUAL to one atmosphere, i.e. the ambient pressure, and bubbles of vapor form directly in the liquid....
