Explanation:
Blood group antigens are either proteins or sugars on the surface of red blood cells. The blood types as we use consist of two types of antigens:
- ABO-antigens
#-># sugars - Rhesus antigen
#-># protein
You can have either A, B or A+B antigens and in addition to that you can be either rhesus positive (antigen present) or negative (no rhesus antigen).
The example is type A negative blood meaning that red blood cells have the A-antigen but not the rhesus antigen.
Note that only the ABO-atigens are drawn in the first row because the Rhesus factor can be either present or absent
