Dec 21, 2015

To honor the service of military veterans.

Explanation:

From 1919 until 1954 what we today know as Veteran's Day was known as Armistice Day. President Wilson began Armistice Day on November 11, 1919 to commemorate the official end of World War 1, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

In 1954 after two more wars, World War 2 and Korea, President Eisenhower decided that the veterans of all wars and conflicts needed to recognized for their service to our country.

Veterans Day is the day our country gives thanks to those people, men and women, who put their lives in harm's way so that we can live in a free country as dictated in the Pre-Amble to the Constitution.
